After some consideration, I'm going to be updating job boards to remove journeyman level positions from them. After this point, these positions will be available only by request, to be accessible only by those who have roleplayed out an apprenticeship in-game, or else have this well documented as part of their background.
This is because, realistically and lorewise, nobody should be able to become a journeyman without serving a significant period of time as an apprentice. Firstly, because no matter how much innate talent one might have for a job, there's still a vast amount to learn in terms of fundamental knowledge and technique when learning any kind of a craft, and the whole point of an apprenticeship is to teach those fundamental things over a period of intensive training and oversight. And secondly, because all crafts in Omrazir (and elsewhere in the caliphate) are governed by guilds, and it would go against their entire structure and undermine their reputation if people were able to call themselves journeymen while having skipped an apprenticeship period.
I hadn't really thought through the potential implications of posting apprentice and journeyman positions in the lead-up to Omrazir, so I apologize to those who have simply taken jobs on the boards that their combo stat and skill rolls allowed them to get. I will be re-labeling some of these jobs to put them outside of the guild structure -- such as being an Assistant Scribe, rather than a journeyman. That way people can work jobs in certain of these fields without the IC expectation that they actually belong to that particular guild or have hopes to advance through the ranks to become a master in a particular craft one day.
For the time being at least, I'm going to leave apprentice-level positions as they on the boards -- both for people whose characters who are working as mere low-level assistants with no real IC interest in advancing within a guild, and for those who DO want apprenticeship to be a part of their background roleplay, and who might really have goals to become a master craftsman rather than just working to make ends meet. People can decide for themselves how their particular PC views this work.
I think right now the only job boards affected will be the scribing positions at Al-Mansuri the Stationer's Booth, and the blacksmith positions at Mahmoun's Practical Blacksmithing. Some people may get plotnotes as I manually "fire" them from their journeyman positions and "hire" them to the revised positions, so please do not panic. :)
REVISED NOTE: I apparently broke the job ledger at al-Mansuri the Stationer's Booth and it consequently became possessed by a thousand malicious devil wreaking havoc on manual job-hiring. So I'm afraid those who had a job there will have to RESIGN their existing position and then go apply again. I am sorry!!!
