Welcome to Omrazir, Pardon the Mess 1 of 1

After nearly two years of trial and strife, the wayward passengers of the Greenest Dolphin might have hoped to find a peaceful homecoming back upon their native shores. Those for whom Omrazir has never been home might be forgiven for holding out such bright hopes. Those born and raised to the city should have known better.

The first problem had already quite literally surfaced on their way into the harbor: here there be monsters. It's not hard to gather from the locals that sea serpents have been proving themselves a significant nuisance for well over a year now, out of proportion even to their actual presence. While the number of ships they've actually sunk has remained small, word of the serpents has spread far and wide, and their purported menace has grown with each telling. It's said that merchants of the Sala'ah (which is to say, virtually the entire eastern caliphate) have become increasingly reluctant to ship their goods through the Gulf of Adwa and into the Adelantean, with shortages and higher prices in Omrazi markets the predictable result.

This would be enough of a problem to deal with, surely. But Omrazir has suffered other woes, which also soon become apparent even to the casual visitor. There's scarcely a single person in the city who won't bemoan the terrible summer they've just suffered, when fierce thunderstorms poured torrential rain down upon the north Raziyan coast, day after day and week after week. No one even remembers the last time the area saw so many storms, not even the oldsters who are always so glad to tell everyone how much harder things were when *they* were young. Despite major repairs over the last two months, there remains noticeable damage throughout the Omrazir area. Most significantly, the bridge over the Wadi Naaranji was completely swept away, severing the al-Sakhna road that normally connects Omrazir with its chief port.

And then, there's the last problem. Which is.... Well, people mostly seem to avoid talking about, or else are pretend it doesn't exist at all, to the point that it's hard to tell even what it might be. But those barricades in the Via Tenebris, cutting off access to the Cursed Quarter, weren't there two years ago.

All told, things are not entirely well with the city of Omrazir.

Which is to say, it's mostly the same as it ever was, except different.
